The students of WPF Ethics 7ABCD visited the memorial site of the former Mauthausen concentration camp on May 20. The visit was thought-provoking and left a lasting impression:
“For me personally, it was a very formative experience, I was already very well informed in advance and had seen many films and documentaries, but being there and understanding where you are cannot be compared with pictures. However, I would have liked to have had a little more time away from the guided tour to fully absorb what I had seen. I am glad to have had this experience, especially with such a pleasant group.”
Stephanie, 7D
“I think it’s great that we had the opportunity to go to Mauthausen and see it, as it definitely gives you a different feeling to see it with your own eyes.”
Andrew, 7B
“The educational trip to Mauthausen was an interesting, but also very emotional experience for me, because you can imagine the history of the Second World War much more precisely and intensively when you are standing in this place yourself. In addition, the guided tour and the stories told made it easy to put yourself in the shoes of the people who lived there. However, it was relatively hot and sunny, which made it harder to imagine that all this took place in this place, in Mauthausen, because if it had been a bit colder and darker, the story would have resonated even better with me personally. In the end, I can say that I recommend everyone to pay a visit to a concentration camp so that they can immerse themselves even more in the world of the past.”
