Gifted and excellence promotion in the school year 202/23
Once again this year, particularly motivated and interested pupils have the opportunity to study English and/or mathematics in greater depth. The courses take place in the afternoons for one hour per week and are aimed at pupils in Years 2 – 4 who are enthusiastic about learning. In the following, the teachers have their say to give some initial insights:
Maga. Brigitte Exel-Lenger / ENGLISH
This year, we will start preparing for the Cambridge Preliminary Exam (level B1) as part of the gifted and talented program for the lower school. The aim is to enable students to express themselves in correct and idiomatic English in many areas of everyday life. In this one-hour course, which will take place once a week, students will be specifically prepared in the skills of reading, listening and writing. In order to meet the corresponding requirements at level B1, we will also work intensively on vocabulary and grammar. It is planned to continue the course in the coming school year, in which students can then take the external exam at the Cambridge Institute if they wish.
DIin.MMaga. Athanasia Siegl-Hadjiioannou / MATHEMATICS
Facing new challenges together with like-minded people is a great feeling: students who are particularly interested in mathematics meet in blocks every two weeks to explore the mysterious world of mathematics. This involves recognizing connections and providing evidence as well as solving puzzles and formulating them yourself.
Independently of regular lessons, the aim is to get to know different mathematical topics and thus gain a new perspective on the world of numbers and shapes. Tasks are worked on either individually or in groups and discussed with each other or explored experimentally in practical activities. Beyond the boundaries of the school subject, we trace the omnipresence of mathematics in everyday life as well as in art and music.
The aim is also to work together with all participants on an interdisciplinary topic and present it to each other so that a whole can emerge from it. The gifted education team is looking forward to enthusiastic participation and wishes all pupils a fulfilling and motivating school year!
